Steven Detmer

Trustee

I’ve spent most of my life in northern Michigan, around 40 years in Roscommon County, and over 18 years in Lyon Township.

I am deeply committed to the Constitution of the United States, having taken an oath to uphold it. If elected as your township trustee, I will be a true representative of the people. Elected officials are here to serve, not to rule. My utmost priority will be to serve and abide by the laws of the State of Michigan and the Township of Lyon. I am dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of our township, ensuring the protection of our water and woods that make this place a unique haven.

The current Lyon Township board has overstepped its authority and abandoned the people of Lyon Township. They have passed an abusive septic law that exceeds anything required to keep our water clean. It was done with short notice, without a vote, and lacking a reasonable time for the residents to become informed. This law will cause financial hardship on our citizens, especially those on fixed incomes. Some may be forced to sell their homes. If elected, I will work to repeal the new onerous septic law and replace it with a common-sense law that the people can vote on. Let the citizens of Lyon Township decide. Put the government back in the hands of the people.
